Due to its convenience and hygienic characteristics, all kinds of cosmetic packaging are made of plastic. Unfortunately, plastics tend to cause a lot of waste, and once opened, the product must usually be consumed immediately. One of the main reasons why plastics are so popular is their low cost. It is also light, flexible, strong and durable. Most importantly, it is tasteless and pleasant in appearance.
The main disadvantage of plastic is its physical stability, which makes it easy to absorb, stress cracking and cracking. Resistance to ink and other chemicals can limit its use in certain types of packaging.
The most commonly used plastic in cosmetic packaging is PP. Other plastics include PET and acrylic components. Acrylic plastic has the appearance of glass, but it does not break like glass. From an aesthetic point of view, plastics can be made into various colors or tones depending on the material.
Sand called silica is the main component of glass, mixed with metal oxides, sodium carbonate and other trace elements. Wide-mouth bottle packaging emulsions made of glass are popular because they are easy to take out the product with your fingers. The main advantage of glass is that it has a decorative and clean appearance. The three main types of glass are borosilicate, treated soda lime and ordinary soda lime. Each has unique chemical properties.
Borosilicate glass is more chemically inert than soda lime glass because it contains boron and/or aluminum and zinc. The glass contains sodium hydroxide. After one year of storage, the sodium hydroxide, other ingredients and trace particles will be mixed into the distilled water in the glass container. Treated soda water can be used or stored for a long time, while regular soda water is more resistant to chemical corrosion and is suitable for general packaging.
Smaller thick-walled glass jars are used for eye shadow, lip gloss and cream products. Larger glass jars are used for foundations, makeup removers, creams and powders. The amber glass jar is specially designed for opaque bathroom and body products. After reducing sodium ions, glass will become a more chemically resistant form of cosmetic packaging.
